Important Information for Students Wishing to Pursue Post-Secondary Education in the US

Dear High School Counselors and Administrators,

EducationUSA is a program of the U.S. Department of State whose mandate is to provide students -- wishing to pursue post-secondary education in the United States -- with the unbiased information they need to make an informed decision. With over 4,000 accredited colleges and universities offering a wide variety of programs there are many wonderful possibilities open to those who are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in the United States.

We know that many of your students and their parents may have questions about attending colleges and universities in the United States so we are reaching out to high schools across Atlantic Canada to make them aware of the resources available at the EducationUSA website
http://canada.usembassy.gov/educationusacanada.html. This site provides a wealth of information, for students, parents, and educators on topics such as narrowing the search for a school, financing an education, and pursuing an athletic scholarship.

At any time, if you or your students have specific questions about educational opportunities in the United States, please feel free to contact the EducationUSA Advisor in Canada at:
educationusacanada@state.gov

Also, if you have students who are interested in writing the SATs or ACTs (an early step in applying to U.S. schools), please direct them to
http://www.collegeboard.org/ for the SAT and http://www.actstudent.org// for the ACT.  Please find attached a copy of the SAT and ACT test dates for Atlantic Canada. You can also access this information online at http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/164249/Halifax/SAT_ACT20142015_002.pdf

Please also consider checking out the free online videos on the EducationUSA site: http://www.educationusa.info/edusa_connects/ You'll find instructional videos on a variety of topics, including undergraduate admissions, specialized programs, and financing your studies.
